Battery and hybrid inverter in one stack

Savant Power Storage 20 is a 12.5 kW hybrid inverter that sits on top of a 20 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery cabinet. Two stacks give 40 kWh and 25 kW, and up to ten inverters can work together for services up to 800 A.

When the grid fails it takes over in under 70 milliseconds. The Savant Power Modules in the panel then keep the circuits you chose running and hold the rest back, so the battery lasts longer.

Power Storage 50

Power Storage 50 puts 50 kWh in one cabinet, with one or two inverters mounted on its side. With two inverters it delivers 25 kW. It suits large homes that want long runtime without a wall of cabinets.

It is an indoor product. Savant allows it in garages, basements and utility rooms, not in living spaces, and the house needs smoke alarms to local code. It weighs 1,314 lb, so the floor and the delivery path need a look on the site visit.

Solar and generators

One system for every source

Each inverter takes up to 17 kW of solar panels directly, or works with an existing solar system on the AC side. It also starts and stops a hardwired standby generator with a 2-wire start, based on the battery's charge, so a long outage can run on generator and battery together. Portable generators are not supported.

The Savant app shows what the house is using and where power comes from, and Storm Watch mode charges the battery when an outage is possible.

Savant Power Storage or RoseWater?

We offer both battery systems. Savant Power Storage switches the house to battery when the grid fails, in under 70 milliseconds, and works with Power Modules for circuit control and load management. A RoseWater HUB is always online, so its circuits never see a gap, and it conditions the power every day. RoseWater fits large, technology-heavy homes, and most of those projects run $125,000 to $1,000,000. Savant Power Storage fits most other homes.

Power Storage Questions

How much battery does my house need?

Many homes start with one or two Power Storage 20 stacks, 20 or 40 kWh. Two stacks also double the power available off grid, from 52 A to 104 A, which matters for heat pumps and well pumps. Larger homes use Power Storage 50 cabinets. Savant systems range from 20 kWh to 500 kWh. We size it from what you want to keep running.

How long will it run in an outage?

Savant estimates about 13 hours on 20 kWh and about 26 hours on 40 kWh when Power Modules hold the house to essential loads of 1.5 kW. With solar the battery recharges during the day, and with a standby generator it recharges whenever the generator runs.

Is there a gap when the grid fails?

A short one. Savant lists the switchover at under 70 milliseconds. Most homes never notice. If the house has equipment that cannot take any gap at all, a RoseWater system is always online and has none.

Does it work without solar?

Yes. It charges from the grid and holds the charge for an outage. Solar and a generator can be added now or later.

Can it go outside?

The Power Storage 20 is rated for indoor or outdoor use, but its operating range starts at 32 °F, so in New England we install it indoors, in a garage or a dry mechanical room. Power Storage 50 is indoor only. Each PS20 stack is about 85 inches tall and 26 inches wide and needs 36 inches clear in front.

What does Savant battery backup cost?

Savant battery backup runs $10,000 to more than $100,000, depending on the size of the house and what you want backed up. Savant Power Modules, which decide what runs on the battery, typically run $2,000 to $10,000. We give you a written proposal after a site visit.

What does the warranty cover?

Savant lists a ten-year warranty on its battery storage and a five-year warranty on flexible load management.
