Home battery backup and standby generators for Concord, from Monument Square and Main Street to West Concord and the town's wooded edges.
Get a Savant QuoteConcord has run its own electric utility since 1898, and it has a good record. After the October 2011 snowstorm the town had all of its power back in about 24 hours, while National Grid was still restoring service elsewhere nearly a week after the storm.
Boston Backup Power is a division of Boston Automations in Norwood. We design and install RoseWater Energy systems, Savant Power and Generac and Kohler standby generators, and licensed electricians and gas fitters make the connections.

Storms and outages in Concord
A good utility still has outages. On Super Bowl Sunday, February 3, 2019, a widespread outage hit central and east Concord. Shortly after halftime the light plant had isolated the problem and restored about two-thirds of the power.
On September 8, 2023, a storm brought down more than 60 trees in Concord. The next morning the town reported 86 customers without power and 44 without broadband, and the light plant warned that every downed line should be treated as live.
Who supplies the power
The Concord Municipal Light Plant supplies the town. In 2011 it had buried about half of the town's lines over four decades, paid for by a 1.5 percent surcharge on every electric bill, with about 50 more miles to go. Interconnection for a battery or solar goes to the light plant.
Which system fits a Concord home?
We install all three, so we can recommend the one that suits the house and the budget.
RoseWater Energy
For a large Concord house with lighting control, AV and networking, a RoseWater HUB keeps it running with zero transfer time and smooths out the short blips that even a well-run utility has.
Whole-home battery backup with zero transfer time and power conditioning, for large homes where nothing can blink. Most projects run $125,000 to $1,000,000.
Standby generator
Where a long outage is the worry, a standby generator covers it. In a historic district it goes at the rear, screened, with the commission's approval.
A Generac or Kohler standby generator on natural gas or propane that starts on its own when the power goes out. Most installs run $7,500 to $20,000.
Where the equipment goes in Concord
Houses in the half of Concord with overhead lines are the ones exposed to falling trees. Wherever the house is, a Savant Power Storage cabinet or a RoseWater HUB in the garage or basement avoids the exterior review that comes with a generator in a historic district.
For a generator, Concord's historic district guidelines prefer a well-screened or non-visible area at the rear of the house and say modern equipment should never go on the front facade.
Permits in Concord
Concord's Historic Districts Commission oversees six local districts: American Mile, Barrett Farm, Church Street, Hubbardville, Main Street, and Monument Square and North Bridge. Work visible from a public way needs a Certificate of Appropriateness. For ground-mounted equipment, the guidelines ask for manufacturer information, photos and a site plan showing the location and screening, the commission may ask for noise levels, and evergreen screening can be made a condition of approval.
How to start
For a RoseWater system, start with the Power Plan. For Savant Power, use the Savant quote form. For a standby generator, use the generator quote form. If you are not sure which one fits, use the contact form or call (781) 333-8003 and we will talk it through. We reply within one business day.

Concord's utility restores quickly. Why add backup?
Quick restoration still means hours without power, and short outages reboot networks and lighting systems. A battery covers both, and a generator covers the rare long outage.
