Whole-home battery backup and standby generators for Lincoln's houses in the woods and its four historic districts.

Storms and outages in Lincoln
In the March 8, 2018 nor'easter, 62 percent of Lincoln's Eversource customers lost power earlier in the day, and 27 percent were still out at 10 p.m.
Tropical Storm Isaias on August 4, 2020 left 604 of 2,645 customers out at 4 p.m. the next day. Even an ordinary spring storm on April 13, 2020 brought down branches and lines and left 121 customers in the dark.
Who supplies the power
Eversource serves Lincoln. During Tropical Storm Isaias in 2020, police said Eversource had a problem that made it hard for the public to reach the company, and residents called the police instead.
Which system fits a Lincoln home?
We install all three, so we can recommend the one that suits the house and the budget.
Savant Power
In one of Lincoln's historic districts, Savant Power keeps everything inside, with relay modules in the existing panel and Savant Power Storage in the basement or garage.
Relay modules in your existing panel and Savant Power Storage batteries, so you choose which circuits get backup power and see your usage in the Savant app. Modules typically run $2,000 to $10,000, and battery backup $10,000 to more than $100,000.
Standby generator
A standby generator covers the long outages, like the evening after the March 2018 storm, on its own or behind a battery system.
A Generac or Kohler standby generator on natural gas or propane that starts on its own when the power goes out. Most installs run $7,500 to $20,000.
Where the equipment goes in Lincoln
A HUB or battery cabinet goes in a garage or a lower level, where it needs no exterior review. A generator pad goes where it clears windows and doors, and in a historic district, where it stays out of view of the road.
Permits in Lincoln
Lincoln's Historic District Commission reviews exterior changes visible from a public way in the town's four historic districts. A generator or outdoor cabinet that can be seen from the road in one of those districts goes to the commission. Equipment inside the house does not.
How to start
For a RoseWater system, start with the Power Plan. For Savant Power, use the Savant quote form. For a standby generator, use the generator quote form. If you are not sure which one fits, use the contact form or call (781) 333-8003 and we will talk it through. We reply within one business day.
Questions about backup power in Lincoln
Our house is in one of Lincoln's historic districts. Can we add a generator?
Our house is in one of Lincoln's historic districts. Can we add a generator?
Yes, with the Historic District Commission's review if it is visible from a public way. A location behind the house or screened from the road is the usual answer. A battery system indoors avoids the review.
How much of the house can a HUB carry?
How much of the house can a HUB carry?
As much as you size it for. A HUB20 covers a 100 A service and a HUB40 a 200 A service, and HUB40s can be combined for larger homes.
Who installs the system?
Who installs the system?
We design it and coordinate the work. A licensed electrician makes the connection at the panel, and RoseWater's technicians commission a HUB.
During Isaias we could not even reach Eversource. Does that matter with a backup system?
During Isaias we could not even reach Eversource. Does that matter with a backup system?
Not for the backup itself. A standby generator senses the outage and starts on its own, and a battery switches over by itself. You can still report the outage when the lines clear, but the house keeps running meanwhile.
