Whole-home battery backup and standby generators for the estates of Beverly Farms and Prides Crossing and the rest of Beverly.
Build Your Power PlanBeverly Farms and Prides Crossing grew up as summer estates for Boston families in the late 1800s and early 1900s, along Hale Street and the shore. Many of those houses now run year-round with far more technology inside than their builders imagined.
Boston Backup Power is a division of Boston Automations in Norwood. We design and install RoseWater Energy systems, Savant Power and Generac and Kohler standby generators, and licensed electricians and gas fitters make the connections.

Storms and outages in Beverly Farms
On September 22, 2015, about 1,500 National Grid customers lost power from Endicott College through Beverly Farms toward Gordon College. On August 29, 2018, in a heat wave, a transmission line failure left more than 14,000 customers in Beverly, Hamilton, Essex, Manchester-by-the-Sea and Gloucester without power at 11:30 a.m.
Wind storms add to it. The October 22, 2014 nor'easter took out 2,888 Beverly customers, about 15 percent of the city. On October 31, 2018, 4,799 Beverly customers were out, and in the October 27, 2021 nor'easter there were 3,004 out at 9:45 a.m.
Who supplies the power
National Grid serves Beverly, including the Farms and Prides Crossing. Outage reports show the Farms sharing lines with the Endicott College and Gordon College areas, and one transmission failure can reach several North Shore towns at once.
Which system fits a Beverly Farms home?
We install all three, so we can recommend the one that suits the house and the budget.
Savant Power
For a smaller Beverly house, or one that wants backup only for chosen circuits, Savant Power adds smart modules to the existing panel and battery storage, and you control it from the app.
Relay modules in your existing panel and Savant Power Storage batteries, so you choose which circuits get backup power and see your usage in the Savant app. Modules typically run $2,000 to $10,000, and battery backup $10,000 to more than $100,000.
Standby generator
A standby generator behind a RoseWater or Savant system covers the long outages. On its own, it is a practical answer for many Beverly homes away from the Farms.
A Generac or Kohler standby generator on natural gas or propane that starts on its own when the power goes out. Most installs run $7,500 to $20,000.
Where the equipment goes in Beverly Farms
The big houses in Prides Crossing and Beverly Farms usually have a garage, a carriage house or a lower-level mechanical room with space for a HUB. A HUB needs about 3.5 feet of width, 3 feet of depth and 8 feet of height, with 36 inches clear in front, and it does not need air conditioning.
On a property close to the water, keep the HUB above any flood level, since RoseWater's warranty does not cover water damage. If there is no room inside, the HUB40 can go outdoors in RoseWater's enclosure.
How to start
For a RoseWater system, start with the Power Plan. For Savant Power, use the Savant quote form. For a standby generator, use the generator quote form. If you are not sure which one fits, use the contact form or call (781) 333-8003 and we will talk it through. We reply within one business day.
Questions about backup power in Beverly Farms
Can a RoseWater system handle a large Prides Crossing property with outbuildings?
Can a RoseWater system handle a large Prides Crossing property with outbuildings?
Yes. HUB40s can be combined for larger services, and 3-Phase systems cover properties with three-phase power. We size from the panel schedules and the loads you want protected.
Our house already has a generator. Why add a HUB?
Our house already has a generator. Why add a HUB?
A generator starts only after the power is gone, so the house blinks and the electronics reboot. A HUB carries the house with no gap and cleans up the generator's power while it runs.
How do we price a RoseWater system for a Beverly Farms estate?
How do we price a RoseWater system for a Beverly Farms estate?
Start with the Power Plan, then a site visit to read the panels and outbuildings. Most RoseWater projects run between $125,000 and $1,000,000, and estates with several services sit toward the upper end of that range.
