In the January 4, 2018 storm, 861 Rockport customers were without power at 4:30 p.m., nearly a fifth of the town. Summer storms do it too. On August 29, 2025, pop-up showers and microbursts brought down trees and wires on Summer and Pleasant Streets and on South Street and Marmion Way, leaving about 800 customers without power.
The harbor takes a beating in winter. In 2016 FEMA awarded about $1.2 million to repair the breakwater at the harbor entrance in Pigeon Cove after winter storm damage.

Where the equipment goes in Rockport
Rockport was a granite quarry town, and many lots are ledge with old stone walls. A generator pad needs a level spot that clears windows, doors and vents, and on Bearskin Neck and the tight streets around the harbor there may not be one, which is where a battery inside the house makes more sense.
Houses near Long Beach, Front Beach and Back Harbor should keep equipment above any flood level and on the side away from the spray.
