On December 28, 2017, during bitter cold, more than 900 customers lost power after a truck appeared to take down a line in Little Nahant. A week later, on January 4, 2018, flooding made the causeway impassable and the town's only ambulance was stranded on the Lynn side of the rotary.
In the March 2018 nor'easters Nahant declared a state of emergency, and the town's hazard plan says the causeway was closed for up to three or four hours on three days in a row. The town bought a Humvee for emergency transport in 2019 because the causeway floods.

National Grid serves Nahant. The Daily Item reported in 2012 that the town is fed by cables along the Lynnway, and both a 2008 underground cable failure near the Lynnway and a 2012 townwide outage came from that supply.
