Backup Power in
Home battery backup and standby generators for Orleans, East Orleans and South Orleans, from Town Cove and Nauset Harbor to Pleasant Bay.
Get a Savant QuoteOrleans is where the Outer Cape starts, and in the big storms it goes dark almost completely. In February 2026 even the gas stations stopped pumping, which tells you something about relying on a portable generator and a gas can.
Orleans faces three bodies of water, Town Cove, Nauset Harbor and Pleasant Bay, and the wind off each of them takes down lines in a big storm.
Boston Backup Power is a division of Boston Automations in Norwood. We design and install RoseWater Energy systems, Savant Power and Generac and Kohler standby generators, and licensed electricians and gas fitters make the connections.

Storms and outages in Orleans
At 12:30 p.m. on February 23, 2026, MEMA counted 6,038 Orleans customers out, 98 percent of the town, and the Cape Cod Chronicle put it at 98.8 percent the next morning. Orleans police said that by midafternoon Tuesday no gas station in town was pumping fuel. The Boston Globe reported more than half of Orleans customers still out on Thursday morning.
Earlier storms looked much the same. After a March 2018 nor'easter, 99 percent of Orleans was still dark the following afternoon. On May 6, 2018, a reported pole fire knocked out about 3,700 customers in the area, 1,600 of them in Orleans.
Who supplies the power
Orleans is served by Eversource. The town's outages are reported as a share of Eversource customers, and solar and battery interconnection applications go to Eversource.
Which system fits a Orleans home?
We install all three, so we can recommend the one that suits the house and the budget.
RoseWater Energy
For a large Pleasant Bay or Nauset Harbor house with a full technology package, a RoseWater HUB keeps everything on with zero transfer time and cleans up the power the rest of the year.
Whole-home battery backup with zero transfer time and power conditioning, for large homes where nothing can blink. Most projects run $125,000 to $1,000,000.
Standby generator
A standby generator on a propane tank or natural gas is the answer for an outage that runs for days, as February 2026 did here. It can stand alone or recharge a battery system.
A Generac or Kohler standby generator on natural gas or propane that starts on its own when the power goes out. Most installs run $7,500 to $20,000.
Where the equipment goes in Orleans
The ocean side of Orleans is eroding. The March 2018 nor'easters stripped the dune in front of the Nauset Beach parking lot, and the town has moved parking inland under a managed retreat plan. Houses on Nauset Harbor, Town Cove and Pleasant Bay sit closer to the water than most, so batteries and pads go above the flood level.
A Savant battery or a RoseWater HUB is usually happiest in a garage. A generator pad needs a spot with clearance from windows and doors, and on a tight lot by the water we plan that early.
How to start
For a RoseWater system, start with the Power Plan. For Savant Power, use the Savant quote form. For a standby generator, use the generator quote form. If you are not sure which one fits, use the contact form or call (781) 333-8003 and we will talk it through. We reply within one business day.
Questions about backup power in Orleans
Why not just keep a portable generator in the garage?
Why not just keep a portable generator in the garage?
Because you have to be there to run it and you have to feed it. In February 2026 no gas station in Orleans was pumping by Tuesday afternoon. A standby unit runs on natural gas or a propane tank, and a battery system needs no fuel at all.
Can a Savant system keep our well pump and heat running?
Can a Savant system keep our well pump and heat running?
If those circuits are on the backup plan and the battery is sized for them, yes. Savant's Power Modules handle 120 V and 240 V circuits, and we size the storage around what you need to keep running.
Does Orleans have its own permit for generators?
Does Orleans have its own permit for generators?
We have not found an Orleans checklist specific to generators. The licensed electrician and gas fitter pull the permits, and a propane tank also needs a fire department permit.
