Savant Power Explained What Is Savant Power?

What Savant Power is: relay modules that fit the panel you have, circuit monitoring in an app, load management, batteries and EV charging in one system.

By Adam Zell of Boston Automations · Updated

The short answer

Savant Power is a home energy system built around small relay modules that go into the electrical panel you already have. Each module sits on a circuit, measures what that circuit uses and can switch it on or off from the Savant app.

On top of the modules you can add Savant Power Storage batteries, a hybrid inverter and a Level 2 EV charger. Savant describes the whole thing as one system that manages solar, battery and generator power together.

What are the parts of a Savant Power system?

Savant lists four main pieces. A home can use some or all of them, and most projects start with the modules.

What does Savant Power do day to day?

The first thing owners notice is visibility. Savant says its modules give revenue-grade monitoring, so the app can show what each circuit uses and put a dollar figure on it. You can see that the basement dehumidifier runs all night or that the pool pump is the biggest load in the house.

The second is control. You can turn circuits off from the app, set schedules, and build energy scenes. Savant gives an "Essentials" scene that runs on its own when the grid goes down, and a laundry scene that limits power to entertainment spaces while the dryer runs.

The third is load management. When the house gets close to a limit, the system turns off the circuits you have marked as less important so the rest stay on. That limit can be your battery during an outage. Savant's service upgrade avoidance, approved in October 2026, uses the same logic to keep a house within its electrical service. Read how load shedding works in a home for the detail.

Why do people talk about Savant and service upgrades?

Adding an EV charger, heat pumps or an addition can push a house past what its electrical service can carry on paper. The usual answer is a service upgrade from the utility, such as 200 A to 400 A. Savant's service upgrade avoidance was approved in October 2026. The modules keep the house under the limit by shedding loads when demand peaks.

Whether it works for a given house still comes down to the load calculation, and the electrician, the inspector and the utility sign off. Our guide on how to avoid an electrical service upgrade explains the code rule and who decides.

What happens in a power outage?

With a battery or a standby generator, the modules let you choose which circuits stay on during an outage. Savant says the modules detect the outage right away and can switch the house to your Essentials scene. With Savant Power Storage, the system can back up part of the house or all of it, depending on how much storage you install.

Savant supports hardwired standby generators with a 2-wire start and does not support portable generators. See Savant Power with a standby generator.

Who is Savant Power a good fit for?

It fits homes that want to see and control their power, add electric loads without a bigger service, or add battery backup with smart control of what runs. It also fits homes that already own a Tesla Powerwall, a FranklinWH or an Enphase battery, because Savant lists those as compatible.

Homes with equipment that cannot see even a flicker, and owners who want every circuit conditioned, are better served by RoseWater Energy. Our Savant Power vs RoseWater comparison covers where the line falls.

Frequently asked questions

What is Savant Power?

What is Savant Power?

Savant Power is Savant's home energy system. Relay modules go into the home's existing breaker panel so the owner can see and switch individual circuits in the Savant app. It can add Savant Power Storage batteries, a hybrid inverter and a Level 2 EV charger, and it manages solar, battery and generator sources together.

Do I need a new electrical panel for Savant Power?

Do I need a new electrical panel for Savant Power?

Usually not. Savant says its Power Modules work with all major panel brands, with pigtail or plug-on neutral versions, so you do not need a proprietary panel. Your electrician confirms there is room for the modules in the panel you have.

Is Savant Power only for homes with a Savant smart home system?

Is Savant Power only for homes with a Savant smart home system?

No. Savant Power runs in the Savant app. If the house already has Savant lighting or control, power scenes can tie into it, but that is optional.

Does Savant Power include a battery?

Does Savant Power include a battery?

It can. Savant Power Storage comes as the PS20 and PS50, and Savant says its storage covers 20 kWh to 500 kWh. Many homes start with modules only for monitoring and load management and add a battery later.

Who installs Savant Power?

Who installs Savant Power?

A licensed electrician installs the modules, the inverter and any battery and makes every connection. We design the system, choose the modules, set up the app and the energy scenes with you, and support it afterward.

How much does Savant Power cost?

How much does Savant Power cost?

Savant Power Modules typically run $2,000 to $10,000, and Savant battery backup runs $10,000 to more than $100,000, depending on the size of the house and what you want backed up.
